An analysis of rhyme in Love's Lantern poem by Joyce Kilmer

 

                                        Love's Lantern

Because the road was steep and long (a)
   And through a dark and lonely land,(b)
God set upon my lips a song (a)
   And put a lantern in my hand. (b)

Through miles on weary miles of night (a)
   That stretch relentless in my way (b)
My lantern burns serene and white,(a)
   An unexhausted cup of day. (b)

O golden lights and lights like wine,(a)
   How dim your boasted splendors are. (b)
Behold this little lamp of mind: (a)
   It is more starlike than a star! (b)

This poem consists of 3 stanzas, each stanza contains 4 lines.
in this poem they have alternate rhyme which is abab.
In an alternate rhyme, the first and third lines rhyme at the end, and 
the second and fourth lines rhyme at the end following the pattern abab
for each stanza.
